Contadora Island is located just 40 kilometers from the city of Panama in the historic Pearl Islands favorite getaway of pirates and merchants who exploited the riches of the new world. Pearls were obtained in these crystalline waters, counted, and then sent to Europe. The island got its name, Contadora, from the Spanish word for the place to count.
Currently Contadora Island offers a beautiful natural landscape with sunshine throughout the year. The best of nature blends with the beautiful architecture of the homes of the rich and famous who have been captivated by the incredible beauty of these beautiful clear waters of the Pacific of Panama.
The tourist infrastructure on the island is limited. Its white sand beaches have very little human density, which makes them so special. The CBS television series Survivor chose the Pearl Islands as the base of operations for three seasons, with Contadora Island used as the main island.
